2016 Seattle 3 Day

Our 9th year!  And our 4th 3 day in Seattle, the first time it rained (pure luck considering it's Seattle). We had a great time, met some old friends and made some new.  We are continually amazed by this even and the impact it makes on the community, breast cancer survivors, and those effected by this disease.

If you read our blog and are interested in donating or better yet, walking in 2017 with us, please feel free to shoot us an email at hendricksfamily@me.com.  We'd love to increase our team of 2 to a lot more!  Plus Seattle is a kick-butt awesome city, so why not come.

2017 walk is 9/15-9/17.

2014 Seattle 3 Day

This was our 6th year participating in the 60 mile challenge.  Seattle is probably our favorite city to do the walk in.  But the 2 times we've done it the weather has been phenomonal!!

We've already signed up for 2015 in Seattle and REALLY want others to join us this year.  The team of two is getting lonely.  Talking for 7 hours a day, 3 days straight for 6 years - we're running out of things to say to each other :)  If you decide you want to join us our team name is "because we can" look for it at registration.

Seattle 3 Day

This was our 5th year participating in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day 60 mile walk.  We've always walked in Arizona, but chose to walk Seattle this year. We had supporters and babysitters so it made it an easy decision.

This is an amazing event that can't be described unless you have an opportunity to participate and/or volunteer.  We appreciate all the support our friends, family, and co-workers have given us over the years.  We couldn't do it without you!

Together the Hendricks family has raised over $34,600 in the past 5 years.  We have already begun our fundraising for 2013 where we will again walk in the Seattle 3 Day.

If you'd like to donate to our 2013 walk please do so at our website:  Seattle 3-Day 2013.

Thanks to everyone!!

Another Successful 60

We did it!
OK, so we do it every year, but this year we were 8+ months pregnant.  Jason walked all 60 miles, and Barb did pretty darn close.  A few sweep vans and a few extra stretching breaks, she managed to finish 50 of the 60 miles...not to shabby.
Cold morning start.  Our designated driver Samara took us all over Phoenix dropping off cars, and dropping of us to make this work.  She has been our very early driver a couple years now - we couldn't do it without her!

Rain??? At the AZ 3 day walk???  What???
Yep!  At least we weren't too hot.

Our #1 Fan - one of the main reasons we walk!!  Thanks Little G for coming to cheer mom and dad on at the finish line (and thanks Grandma Patti for bringing him!!)
Yes we will again be participating in 2012 and look forward to all of the support we get.  Thank you everyone who donated and supported in any way you could.  This is an amazing experience and we feel so fortunate that we are healthy enough to walk each year.  If you are interested in learning more about the Susan G. Komen for the 3 Day, feel free to check out their website or contact us.  We'd love to have a team larger than 2 next year.

Arizona Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk

We did it! Thanks to all of our supporters, friends, family - we couldn't have done it without you. We were sore & tired, but that only lasted a day or two. Hopefully our hard work will leave lasting impression much longer than that. And yes, we will be doing the walk again in 2011, hopefully with some added team members.

Day #2, Hurt is not as good :)

We've successfully completed Day #2 of the Susan G. Komen 60 Mile 3 Day walk. Our legs are a little more sore, our feet have a few more blisters, and we have a little bit more of a tan. It is all part of the experience and we wouldn't trade it for anything. The supporters that showed up today were amazing. We received so many goodies and giveaways in Old Town Scottsdale our hands were full when we got through there. Thanks to the Girl Scouts that made ribbons, bows, bracelets, and hand written cards - we could feel the love! The highlight of our day was our special visitors Samara, Gavin, and Mom!! Today was over 22 miles and seeing all of you made it easier to get through the day.
We appreciate everything you all have done, and your continued support.
If you're in Phoenix and want to join us for closing ceremonies tomorrow you can check out the details at the Susan G. Komen site.
Love to all!

It Hurts So Good!!

Day #1 of the 60 mile 3 day walk has come to a close. I'm sitting in a massage chair surfing the internet. They have everything here at the 3 Day Camp. We are tired, a little sore, but ready for good food at dinner. We always meet some wonderful people and are looking forward to making some new friends tonight.
Love and thanks to all for your support! Pictures will follow when we get home.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

Teaching him young! Jason and I are firm believers in philanthropy of any kind; our goal is that our children will have the same strong value. So we entered Gavin into his first charity run/walk. Sunday was the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Patti, Gavin, and Barb all walked the 5K and Jason came out to cheer us on.
Apparently they don't get a lot of size 2T walkers, so Gavin was swimming in his shirt.
It was a beautiful day, a little warm - but better than rain!

Gavin's first walk wouldn't be complete without a nap. Yes, he fell asleep about 1/2 way through the walk. The stroller was hot and uncomfortable so he wanted mom's shoulder.

Seattle Susan G Koman 3 Day

I can't tell you enough what a wonderful event the Susan G. Koman 3 day is!! The fact that it is in multiple cities, every year amazes me. You really have to experience it to understand what I mean. I just attended the Seattle 3 Day as a crew member (not as a walker), working for the Gear and Tent Crew. I'll leave out the boring details and tell you this is one of the most physically challenging crews to be on during the 3 day. Betsy and I decided "we're young and physically fit, we can do it" and do it we did! We were sore, and tired, hungry & thirsty all the time; we were just too busy to deal with any of those concerns :-) I do have a new respect for my crew members here in AZ, and have a couple of surprises planned for them this year! Below are just a few pictures from our weekend. Jason and I are still trying to raise money for our Arizona walk in November. If you haven't yet donated and would like to you can click the link on our blog to do so. Thank you!

The entire Gear & Tent Crew - Seattle 2010 (well minus Betsy because she had to go back to work). Yes Betsy got up at 2:45 am, loaded walkers luggage onto these moving trucks and then went to work at 7:00 am for a full day of work on Friday.
Josh, Betsy, Barb, and Sean. Josh & Sean were also on gear and tent, they made the weekend really fun. Sean's wife & friend were walkers in the event.
Seattle rain...urgh! It rained on Thursday and Friday - was gorgeous sunny (73 degrees) on Saturday, and then rained again Saturday night and Sunday.
Bags, bags, bags and more bags. I will never apply for a job at Southwest Airlines. Very few people stuck to the guidelines of 35 lbs. or less. Approximately 2,200 walkers and 500 crew members = a lot of luggage!
We managed to take 1 picture the entire weekend of ourselves. Too busy to even think about the camera.

A constant reminder why we were there and what all the hard work was for!
