We still call her baby Lola, but she's far from that. She's MORE than ready for preschool, but her age doesn't allow her in yet. She'll definitely be the top of her class in years to come. In the meantime she'll continue learning through play and enjoying friends and teachers. Lola goes to a Kids Day Out program once a week all day long at Kids Place at Grace (where we also attend church, Grace United Methodist Church). The staff is absolutely amazing. She loves going on Tuesdays with Liam, and is a bit disappointed when she doesn't get to go on the other days. She will soon get used to special days with Grandpa Patti and push school to the curb.

First day of 2015 school
A lot of firsts in the Hendricks house...
Lola...first day of Kids Day out. She's attending one full day a week. Didn't bat an eye, walked right in and started making friends and pleasing the teachers.
Gavin...first day of Kindergarten at Cedar Creek Elementary. I'm not sure there are any kids in America more excited than this guy to start school. He lucked out and has some good buddies in his class. We can't wait to see what great things this guy does in his first year.
Liam...first day of being the BIG BROTHER at preschool. Liam attends 2 full days a week. On Tuesdays he gets one-on-one time with Grandma.
Our little munchkins with a lot of new adventures on the horizon for the 2015-2016 school year.

The graduate
Preschool graduation may seem like an overrated event to the average adult, but to a 5 year old it's the most exciting day on in the universe! Because...it's one day closer to starting Kindergarten. Gavin is so extremely excited to go to big kid school next year, he can hardly wait. It sure makes the transition easier for us! We are so glad we decided to keep him in preschool one more year. He has grown so much!
Here are his parting comments from his teachers Mrs. Schick and Mrs. Langstraat "Gavin you are such an amazing young man and it has been a blessing to be your teacher. you have the academics but most important you are kind, caring and compassionate to all. I am going to miss your jokes at lunch an your awesome hugs! you are so ready for Kindergarten and as you go up, you will do great things! Continue to read and practice writing numbers over the summer"
We're so proud of our G-man. Can't wait to see what's in store for big kid school Gavin starts kindergarten at Cedar Creek Elementary on August 13th.

Gavin Update
Gavin is 4 years and 8 months now and had a HUGE growth spurt in the last month or so. He comes close to the top of mom's armpit...he's only 4 how does this happen. If we're lucky he'll get daddy's height!
Currently playing soccer and football, even though we're still seeing snow flurries. We haven't really decided what he likes best; he's hard to read and still sometimes uninterested all together. He loves to run fast so we think he's taking a liking to soccer...lots of running.
Gavin will be waiting one more year to start Kindergarten so the 2014-2015 school year he will attend transitional Kindergarten 3 days a week, full time.
We're looking forward to this summer and swim lessons and baseball!

Scrumptious Sundays
Fun preschool snacks. Gavin & Liam each took treat bags to their friends at school with a note telling them they were thankful for friends. These were all so easy and so fun to make!
ACORNS
Ingredients:
Chocolate Chips
Nutter Buter Bites
Hersey's Kisses
The bite size cookies and Hershey's kisses have almost the exact same quantity in each bag. Maybe a few leftover kisses to munch on while you assemble.
- Melt 1/2 of the chocolate chips to use as your glue.
- Dip the Hersey's kiss in the melted chocolate and stick to the Nutter Butter bite.
- Let cool.
- Add the chocolate chip to the top of the cookie; it helps if the melted chocolate has cooled a bit so it doesn't run off the side.
TURKEYS
Ingredients:
Reese's Mini Peanut Butter cups
Candy Corn
Whoppers
Double Stuff Oreo
White Frosting
(Black Frosting if you wan tot add the eyeballs)
- Open the Oreo, apply 6 candy corns to the stuffing. Add white frosting to reapply the cookie.
- Put a liberal amount of frosting on the bottom of the feathered Oreo, apply to a flat Oreo for the base. If it won't stay you need more frosting.
- Cut the Reese's so it will lie flat (this works best if they have been chilled in the fridge for a while)
- Use frosting to apply the Reese's and the Whopper for the head and body of the turkey
- Cut the remaining Candy Corns to make wings, a nose, and little turkey feet, apply with white frosting.
- Lastly you can use a combination of white and black frosting to create the eyes. I used a toothpick but wasn't super happy with the crazy eyes. I made another batch and left the eyes off, they were just as cute. You can also purchase candy eyes at a store like Michaels (or maybe use mini chocolate chips)
We put a Turkey and a few acorns in a clear cellophane bag and delivered to school just before Thanksgiving. Don't forget to make enough to share with the teachers and other staff! Everyone LOVED them!!
We already have our Christmas treats planned - reindeer pops coming soon!
